Small-town Liberty is good at producing two things: coal and dark family histories. Dutiful high school senior MIRIAM is ready to shake off its dust, but her domineering parents expect her to take over the family mine. She wants to honor her father and mother, or whatever—but does that mean protecting their monstrous secret too?

Seven scripts have been chosen from this year’s group of Semifinalists and Finalists in the Screenplay, Playwriting, and Fiction Podcast Competitions to be read aloud in our Script Reading Workshops. These selected scripts will be performed by a group of actors in an intimate setting. The read-throughs will be bare-bones. With only actors and the words on the page, it is the ultimate testament to the quality of the written word.
