Beth Serlin is a screenwriter, educator and firm believer in the universal nature of film language.  Her career started with Beyond Silence (Jenseits der Stille), winning Best Screenplay at the Tokyo Film Festival and a nomination for Best Foreign Language film in the 1998 Academy Awards.  She’s since written for the major German broadcasters Pro-7, ZDF, Sat1, and ARD. Her latest feature, Dschungelkind, was produced by UFA Cinema and distributed by Universal International. Most recently she co-wrote Bodycheck, a tele-film for Dreamtool Entertainment which premiered on Sat1.
As an educator, Serlin is an Associate Professor of Screenwriting at Loyola Marymount University, working with both undergraduate and graduate students. She’s led script development seminars in Mexico (Laboratoria de Escritura de Guiones) and throughout Europe (North by Northwest, Screen Training Ireland, The Binger Institute, Master School Drebuch). For two years she was the Benedek Artist-in-Residence at the University of Michigan.  Having worked with writers from over 20 countries, Serlin is committed to how the craft of screenwriting promotes communication across borders, cultures, and linguistic barriers.
