Julie Getz

director/producer Care to Laugh; Director of Development TV/ Film/ Podcasts, AARP Studios
Julie began her career in the film and television industry 16 years ago as an intern for a local news station in Washington, DC.   It was a leap from what she was presently doing, writing policy reports as a research assistant, and when presented with the opportunity to work in a newsroom Julie was excited to embark on a new career adventure.  Julie learned quickly and although the newsroom experience didn’t stick, it helped catapult her to a career in international and domestic production creating non-fiction programs for a variety of networks: Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, A&E, Discovery Science Channel, Investigation Discovery, National Geographic, and PBS.

Julie is presently the Director of Development at AARP Studios in Washington, DC creating original content for television, film, podcasts, and the organization’s digital platforms.  Julie founded and produced AARP’s first podcast, The Perfect Scam, profiling America’s biggest fraud stories, and is featured as one of the top podcasts to listen to on Apple Podcasts.

Julie makes her feature film directorial debut in AARP’s first feature length documentary, Care to Laugh, screening at Austin Film Festival 2018.

Julie thrives to create meaningful experiences in both her career and for her family.  When she’s not scribbling ideas in her notebook, on set directing, or in the podcast recording booth, Julie is writing her first children's adventure novel.  It’s fair to say she's not as far along as she'd hope because she and her husband are raising four small children under the age of six at home.
