Paavo Hanninen is a New Orleans-based writer, director and cinematographer.

Originally from Alabama, Paavo moved to New Orleans after finishing his MFA at UT-Austin in 2012. As a director, Paavo's short films have played at Austin Film Festival, Curitiba International Film Festival, New Orleans, and Sidewalk film festivals. His short film "Tiny Tape Recorder" was supported by an Austin Film Society grant and selected for the 2012 Berlinale Short Film Cloud. Paavo is currently in pre-production on his first narrative feature, "Rockaway," and in post-production on his first documentary feature, "Big Chief."

Paavo also works as a cinematographer, having shot for documentaries by Margaret Brown, Garrett Bradley, Rachel Boynton, Lee Hirsch, and many others. He has done commercial work as a director and cinematographer for a wide variety of clients and agencies including Mother New York, BBDO, Complex, Mic.com, and many others.
