Richard is the Founder and Executive Director of CINEMA ED, a 501(c)3 non-profit film and media organization that focuses on using independent film as a teaching tool. Although their programs place special emphasis on at-risk populations, they work with all students to harness the storytelling power of today’s technologies and engage in filmmaking techniques and methods. Cinema Ed also powers The Young Filmmakers track for film festivals to provide a broad platform for visibility of student films. In addition, they conduct FilmBoot24 weekend filmmaking boot-camps for high school students, who are challenged to make films in 24 hours, and show the unique vision of today’s young filmmakers.

Richard is also a screenwriter and actor. His feature screenplay, "Winkle", was a previous Semi-Finalist at the Austin Film Festival, and his script, "Bean Sprout", was selected by the Nicholl Fellowships for Screenwriting as a Quarter-Finalist and as a Finalist by the Creative World Awards. In addition, he has co-written with Alysha Pamphile (“Black Girl Podcast”) a TV pilot, “Kis Construction,” about a magical African American family of Kiswahili descent that renovates homes and changes lives. Richard also wrote and starred in an award-winning short film, "Bartleby 2013", based on Herman Melville's short story, and was on the production team of a previous AFF Competiton Short, “Shy Guys,” written and directed by veteran actor Fredric Lehne (The Greatest Showman, Seven Seconds, Talullah, Zero Dark Thirty, Men in Black) and starring 2016 Tony Winner Reed Birney (The Humans, House of Cards and many more). Richard’s acting exploits can be seen on television, in film, on stage and on the internet.
